Questions about visits and fees
What patients ask before the first visit.
01What happens at a first visit?
About an hour: a talk about what you would like to change, photographs, an exam, X-rays if your dentist decides you need them, and your options in writing. You decide on your own timeline.
02Do you take my dental insurance?
It depends on the plan. How fees work lists the types of plan we bill and how we check your benefits before you come in. Call us with your plan and we will tell you before you book.
03What if I don't have insurance?
You pay the fee for your visit, and your dentist gives you a written estimate before treatment starts. How fees work explains the estimate, receipts and how financing is offered.
04Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?
Coverage varies by plan. Tell us which plan you have when you call, and we will say whether we can bill it before you book.
05Will it hurt?
Your dentist numbs the area before work that needs it, and you can raise a hand to stop at any time. Tell us beforehand about anything that has been hard for you in the past.
06How often do I need X-rays and a cleaning?
Your dentist decides from your mouth and your health history. Many adults come twice a year, and some need more or fewer visits.
07How long does cosmetic work take?
It depends on the treatment. Your dentist gives you the number of visits for your own plan, and the range for each option, in writing.
08Do you see children?
Lustre sees adults and teens. For younger children we can suggest a pediatric dentist.
09What counts as a dental emergency?
Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop is an emergency: go to an emergency room or call 911. For a broken tooth or a toothache, call our office.
10Do you offer sedation?
No. We use numbing and give you breaks. If you would like another option for a visit, ask us and we will help you find a dentist who offers it.
11Can I get a written estimate before treatment?
Yes. Your dentist lists the treatment, the visits it takes and the expected cost, in writing, before anything is scheduled.
12How do I cancel or change a visit?
Please give us at least 24 hours' notice by phone so we can offer your time to another patient.
